EN ROUTE ON BIKE

GEAR & SPARES

COMPULSORY:

  1. Mountain Bike – Serviced and in good condition
    1. Brakes MUST be serviced,
    2. Tyres MUST be in good condition,
    3. Derailleurs must be aligned and in good working condition.
  2. Helmet – In good condition
  3. Cycling Shoes – In good condition
  4. Water bottle or hydration pack
  5. Rear Red Light – for public road safety
  6. Repair Kit:
    1. Tubeless Repair kit or Tube Puncture repair kit
    2. 2 x CO2 bomb + adaptor
    3. Dry / Wet Lube – small
    4. Quick chain link – Make sure 10 or 11 speed.
    5. Chain Breaker.
    6. Multi-tool
    7. Tie downs – small & large.

EN ROUTE IN SUPPORT VEHICLE

RECOMMENDED:

  1. Tube specific to your wheel size.
  2. Spare Tyre specific to your wheel size and preference.
  3. Pump - small
  4. Spare tubeless valve (if tubeless)
  5. Spare 2 x CO2 bombs
  6. Tyre levers.
  7. Extra Lube wet / dry
  8. Stans sealant enough for 2 tyres.
  9. NB: Bring sleeping bag and pillow for the first night at Kruisrivier

GOOD TO HAVE:

  1. GPS device or phone / Cateye / other
  2. Battery power bank for devices and phone

OPTIONAL:

  1. Spare rear derailleur hanger
  2. Spare spoke specific to your wheel
  3. Bike washing kit – soap, brush, degreaser, chain cleaner.

EN ROUTE ON BIKE

CYCLING CLOTHES

COMPULSORY:

  1. At least 4 sets of cycling kit – Or wash kit every night in shower
  2. Cycling socks – 4 pair or wash
  3. Cycling Gloves – You can bring winter and summer gloves for chilly mornings
  4. Water proof cycling jacket

RECOMMENDED:

  1. Cycling glasses
  2. Arm Warmers and  / or UV arm sleeves
  3. Buff for chilly mornings and dust – One or Two or wash
  4. Thermal body shirt – you have to remove this later in the morning.
  5. Chamois Cream – Your favourite brand

EN ROUTE IN SUPPORT VEHICLE

GOOD TO HAVE:

  1. Wind jammer – Possibility of chilly windy days
  2. Warm jacket for first few kilometers and for night after shower – drop in support vehicle
  3. Extra water bottle
  4. Extra Buff
  5. Wet wipes – small pack anti-bacterial webwipes

NUTRITION

Breakfast & Dinner will be provided each day except Day 1 no breakfast and last day only breakfast.

In ride nutrition and lunch requirements is for your own account, bring some money along for the stops at roadside shops and for lunch on the last day after summiting God’s Window.

The meals are generous and there is no need to bring your own food for breakfast or dinner.

OPTIONAL:

You are free to bring special food if you are on a special diet or have specific food preferences. You must keep in mind however that it must be non-perishable foods because there are no refrigeration in the vehicles or at the overnight venues. Biltong, droëwors, sweets and other treats help to regenerate the fatigued bodies.

ON-BIKE NUTRITION: Bring your own race nutrition for on the bike. You can store your nutrition on one of the support vehicles. You will have access to your stash if you need nutrition at the rest points.

CASUAL CLOTHES

Bring comfortable clothes for the evenings after bike wash and shower. Bring enough for each day. A tracksuit or denim goes a long way. Clean shirt and undies for each day then. Bring jacket or use cycling jacket for chilly evenings. Also something to sleep in is recommended.
